How can I get candle wax off of fabric without ruining the fabric?

My dumb ass thought a baby food lid was a fine place to burn a votive candle. Bad idea. The wax spilled over onto a table runner I just bought and love. I let it cool and dry and tried to peel it off, but it leaves white residue and pulls the fabric. Anyone out there know any tricks? Thanks!

Kitchen towel and a hot iron, making sure you dont scorch the table runner. The wax will come out if you warm it up. Keep using fresh paper so as not to spread the wax everywhere and remember to wipe the hotplate of the iron clean just in case.
