White Color
Why most of the organic compounds and pharmaceutical drugs are white in color?
Is white color of organic compound due to solvent effect?
Whether it is due to use of charcoal ?
What is the core idea behind color of any compound?
The colour of any compound or element depends on electronic structure of its molecule.
In colourful compound there is empty sub orbit available due to its inherent electronic structure. also force of nucleus on electron is less comparatively
Now when light is exposed on such material electron is excited by absorbing energy. but it achieves again its original position by natures’ law by releasing it in form of light. But releasing frequency is in limited band which depend what are level of orbits in that particular matter. and colour of light depends on its frequency and thus we can see compound colourful. this exciting and settling is continous process and thus we can see the colour.
This kind of free electronic structure are seen in metalic element like Iron, copper, gold, nickel etc. and its compounds thus even when such element is present in organic compounds or other it imparts specific colour to it for example dyes.
In general organic compound we found element like C, H, O, N, P,S etc. this doesnt have such electronic strucrure. And we doesnt see any colour. But if metallic part is added and every thing is fine we can see colour there. And thus white light just reflect on it to look compound white or colourless.
For example leaves are organic compond but it has Mg which gives it green colour, blood(hemoglobin) is also Orgnic but Fe gives it red colour.
But all metal doesnt have same capability for example NaCl sodium chloride(Salt) Where Na is metal. this are the famous example. but this science of colour is Much evolve and can ans most of the question.
